How to draw a flag football play
- Pick how many players your league uses. The designer lines them up in a standard formation.
- Drag players into your formation. The center snaps the ball from the middle of the line.
- Tap a player, then tap the field to draw their route. Each tap adds a turn in the route.
- Set the style: a white route for receivers, a yellow line for the ball carrier on runs, a dashed blue line for fakes.
- Number the QB's reads 1, 2 and 3 so the quarterback knows where to look first.
- Save it, then add it to the wristband playbook with your jersey numbers.
Turn your plays into wristband cards
A play only helps on game day if every player can see it. Once a play is saved, press Add to wristband playbook. The playbook builder opens with your play already picked and shown first, marked "Mine". Add more of your own plays or mix in ours, type your players' jersey numbers so each kid finds their own circle, and print. You get numbered cards that slide into a QB wristband, plus a full-page playbook for the coach with every diagram and read.
Your own plays and ours print the same way, with the same field and colors, so the card a player looks at in the huddle matches the diagram you drew.
Share a play with your assistant coach
Copy share link puts the whole play inside the link itself. Paste it in a group text or the team chat. Whoever opens it sees the play on their own phone and can save a copy to their own My plays. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account, so the link keeps working as long as you keep it.
Save a picture or print one play
- Download PNG saves a sharp picture of the diagram with the play name on top. It works for a team slideshow, a parent email, or a quick look on the sideline.
- Print this play prints only the diagram, the name and the reads, one play per page, with none of the buttons. Choose "Save as PDF" in the print window to keep a PDF copy.
Tips for designing plays kids can run
- Keep routes to one or two turns. A route with four turns will not happen the same way twice.
- Spread receivers at least 3 yards apart at the end of their routes so one defender cannot cover two of them.
- Give every pass play a short, safe option for when the rush gets there fast.
- Draw the play the way you will call it. If you cannot explain it in one sentence, simplify it.
Play designer questions
Is the play designer really free?
Yes. Drawing, saving, sharing, the PNG download and printing are all free, with no trial and no locked features.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no email. Your plays are saved in the browser you drew them in. That also means clearing your browser data removes them, so send yourself a share link for any play you want to keep.
How do I get my plays onto another phone or computer?
Open the play, press Copy share link, and open that link on the other device. Press Save play there and it joins that device's My plays.
How do I print wristband cards?
Save your play, then press Add to wristband playbook. In the playbook builder, pick the rest of your plays, add jersey numbers, choose "Wristband cards" and print on regular paper. Cut out the cards and slide them into a 3-window QB wristband.
Can I draw 5 on 5, 6 on 6 and 7 on 7 plays?
Yes. Pick the number of players in the Players menu and the designer lines them up in a standard formation you can drag into any shape. NFL FLAG leagues play 5 on 5, and other leagues use 6 or 7 players. Check your league for its format.
Can I change one of your plays?
Yes. Use "Start from a proven play" above, or press Customize this play on any play page. You get your own copy to change and save. The original stays as it is.
