How to use a printed playbook
- Pick four to six plays. Most youth teams run a handful of plays well rather than twenty plays badly. For a first season, start with the starter sheet or the plays on our 6U and 8U pages.
- Give each play a number and keep it. A simple system: runs get the low numbers, passes the middle, trick plays last. Once 5 means Curl-Flat, it means Curl-Flat all season.
- Put the same numbers on the kids' wrists. Print blank cards from our wristband template and write the plays in, or let the playbook builder print the diagrams for you with your players' jersey numbers.
- Walk it, jog it, run it. Walk each new play with no defense, then jog it, then run it against defenders.

Which rules are these plays built for?
NFL FLAG style 5 on 5 rules: no blocking, and the QB hands off, pitches or passes instead of running past the line. Leagues change the rules on rushing, the QB running and the youngest divisions, so check your league. Our rules page covers the basics.
Why does the diagram look lighter than on the website?
The printed version uses a pale field and dark lines so a page of diagrams does not drain a home printer's ink. The plays are the same.
Which plays should a 6 or 7 year old team run?
Start with the one-page starter sheet: runs with a handoff and a pass with one clear target. The 6U plays page explains why these work at that age.
Do you add new plays?
Yes. When new plays go up on the site, the PDFs are rebuilt to include them, so download again before a new season.
